Over the past 20 years, social media has became a part of our daily lives and a part of our culture. There were many social networking sites that rose but soon replace by the "next-big-thing." Today there are for major social networking sites that are dominating the market, Facebook Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn each having similarities and differently. Each platform allows the user to connect and socialize with thousands of people around the world but creating a profile account but in different ways. All four platform has the follow and follow back feature, and all of them allows the user to directly message another user, instead of using it public messaging features.

In Facebook, it has several features that provides a large broad platform, acting more like a personal blog. It aims for user to share updates posts with pictures to share with their "friends" or people that they connected with as you post your message or people and it will be post on a thread for everyone that you're connect with to see. You could create group profiles to have certain people to interact and even sell or buy items. Facebook mainly aims for everyone even the older generations to connect with family members and close friends.

In Twitter, follows that public thread feature, as one "tweet" a post, either a message or picture. Unlike Facebook, there is a limited amount of characters that users are allow in each post. It aims to share the latest news and updates. It allows to broadcast information and questions in seconds to a large audience becoming a public service announcement for news and events. One tweet can be share to thousands of people without needing to message everyone directly or be follow by a lot of people. News nowadays are posted on tweeter because it can be share and seen instantly. The format is simple and less options than Facebook, keeping its true usage.

In Instagram, is the social media of sharing pictures and videos, where users post a picture or video on a public thread to the users that follow them. The format is simple and easy, as you just in to scroll, "like" the picture of people you follow and upload pictures from your camera roll. You can direct messages other people to share pictures as well. It's easier to share a picture of yourself, your food, a meme, or a selfie instead of writing a post or tweet 

In LinkedIn,, is the social media of career development and businesses connections. It has many of the similar features to Facebook in terms of platform, messaging, and posting post. But it mainly focus on communicating with business leaders and there is many job posting and company information, a center for those wanting to present themselves on the business scene.
